How to choose the right musical instrument for beginners?

Choosing the first musical instrument is one of the most important steps for any future musician. How to choose the right one for us, should we learn on our own or with a teacher, how much money should we invest? All questions that loom over us, but which we hope to answer in the following lines so that you can start your musical journey more motivated and inspired.

Test without mistake

If you want to get into music but haven't had any contact with a musical instrument before, the best way is to just give it a try. Ask yourself what you're most interested in - experimenting with rhythm, creating memorable melodies, or maybe there's a frontman lurking inside you? Before you head off to professional educators, ask friends of yours who are musicians and ask them to drop by their rehearsal room and play with them. Guitar, piano, drums or bass will be the easiest to get to. Also think carefully about what music you are most drawn to, as this will also point you towards the right instrument.

The most popular choices

Guitar and piano are the most preferred instruments for any beginner. The guitar, besides being a very versatile instrument, is easily portable, takes up no space and requires no additional equipment. The piano is an extremely interesting instrument. When we play it, we work with rhythm, melody and harmony at the same time. It is an instrument that greatly expands our horizons as musicians. Like the guitar, the piano is a very versatile instrument that can be used in many genres. It's definitely not as portable as the guitar, but there are many different electric instruments on the market these days that will help you take your first steps in mastering the instrument. The key thing about the guitar and piano, as well as the violin, cello and flute for example, is that you can learn to play in your own home, even if you have sour neighbours. If you choose drums, however, you will have to go to a rehearsal room.

Help from a teacher

If you've already got your bearings, we advise you to work with a tutor from the start. Yes, there are hundreds of free videos and tutorials on the internet, but the key to mastering a musical instrument is to avoid technical mistakes that can hinder you in the future - we're talking about proper staging and technique that will allow you to develop without injury, physical difficulties. Vocal teachers, as well as guitar, piano or drum teachers are much easier to find than teachers of more exotic instruments, so online lessons are not to be ignored either.

Budget

These days it's pretty easy to get a quality musical instrument at an affordable price. The best choice is always somewhere in between the cheapest option and the most expensive. There's no point in learning to play a Gibson guitar for a few thousand euros, but the cheapest and lowest-quality model can be awkward and detract from the experience. Ask friends and teachers, do your research, listen to samples online and choose an instrument that truly inspires you to spend time with it. The more you delve into music practice, the better you'll get at what you need and what's missing from your current equipment, so give yourself time and don't overspend at the beginning.

We hope we have been helpful. Remember, one is never too old or too young to take up music. The most important thing is to have fun, be creative, and create art to be proud of! If you have questions or need help choosing your first instrument - you know where to find us!
