Interview

How long have you been involved in music and how did you decide to start?

I've been involved in music for 10 years, I decided to start thanks to my sister who was the first to pick up the sticks, and shortly after I got hooked myself.

Which song do you remember best from your childhood?

Hakuna Matata from the infamous Lion King.

Who are the artists you've listened to and played the most?

Artists I have listened to and played are Ray Charles, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Shirley Bassey, Sarah Vaughan, Muddy Waters, Stevie Wonder, Gypsy Kings, Afro-Cuban All Stars, Sergio Mendes, Mark Ronson, Madball, Terror, Bad Brains, Misfits and many more.

In which musical style are you most advanced?

I can safely say that besides hardcore/punk music, I am well-versed in most Latin genres.

What does music give you?

Music gives me happiness and freedom.

Why did you decide to become a music teacher?

I decided to start teaching because I found that I really enjoyed the process and that I wanted to help anyone who was passionate about the instrument. If I could, I would give drumsticks to every single person in the world because music is so much more than just a form of entertainment.

What is the most important thing to learn in music?

There are two main factors - consistency and "critical" listening. By critical listening,  I mean analysing any piece of music.

What does RockSchool mean to you?

A very good opportunity to develop as a teacher in the music industry and gain valuable experience.

What music is valuable to you?

I would say almost all, except our famous chalga, also K-pop and other similar styles.

What is the most extravagant thing you've heard lately?

Armenian/Dagestani/Azerbaijani/Georgian funk and jazz.

Do you have a dream related to music?

I dream that before I leave this world I will have left something for people to remember and enjoy, like I enjoy the Beatles albums 60 years later.
