Interview

How long have you been involved in music and how did you decide to start?
From an early school age, I sang in the children's vocal group of folk singing at the school where I studied. A bright and unforgettable memory from those years is my meeting with the great and unique folk singer Nadka Karadjova, her bright memory. A decisive moment for my future musical development was my presence at a concert of the students from SMU in the village of Shiroka Laka in the National Palace of Culture - Sofia. I was so impressed and fascinated by the performances of folk music that even then I was overwhelmed by a strong desire when I grew up to study at the music school.

Which song do you remember most vividly from your childhood?
The song I remember from my childhood is "My Faded Lamb" by Boris Mashalov, my grandfather loved this song very much and always played it on my gramophone.

Who are the artists you have listened to and performed the most?
I love listening to the performances of Slavka Sekutova, Radka Aleksova, Pavlina Gorcheva, Borka Trichkova, Pavel Sirakov, Stancho Stoilov, Kremena Stancheva and Vasilka Andonova, Bratya Mitevi, Sorina Bogomilova - they have been my teachers over the years and still are!

In what musical style are you most advanced?
Bulgarian folk music - Shopska folklore region

What does music give you?
Music is a part of me, it is fully present in my daily life. Music inspires me, makes me happy and grateful, gives me а freedom of thought, joy for the senses and pride in the soul. I feel special when I perform the songs of our ancestors.

Why did you decide to start teaching music?
I had the good fortune to come across great folk singing teachers - professionals with big hearts. I want everything I have learned from them, the accumulated knowledge and skills, as well as my passion for folklore to reach as many people as possible.

What is the most important thing to learn in music?
The first thing that comes to mind is improvisation. Responsibility to yourself and others, perseverance, patience, love and more.

What is RockSchool for you?
Opportunity to realize human dreams!

Which music is valuable to you?
Every music created with love and professionalism is valuable.

Do you have a dream related to music?
I have many dreams related to music and one of them is already a reality! My other big dream is to pass on my experience and knowledge to people who want to learn folk singing and get to know Bulgarian folklore up close.
